Meet Asyraaf, a RASMA 2024 mentor!

"I had the amazing opportunity to volunteer with Roots & Shoots Malaysia at various environmental conservation projects, and let me tell you, it was truly an enriching experience. One of the highlights was when we traveled all the way from Selangor to Penang to assist The Habitat Penang Hill in maintaining their sustainable trail.

Imagine hiking through the lush greenery, surrounded by the beauty of nature, all while contributing to its preservation. We worked tirelessly, cleaning up the trail by hand to ensure it remains sustainable for researchers and visitors alike. Even though we covered just a portion of the trail, the sense of accomplishment was immense.

Another memorable experience was volunteering at the Segari Turtle Sanctuary. Instead of the usual tree planting activities, we focused on planting trees that would benefit the turtles and their eggs along the sandy coastline. It was heartwarming to know that our efforts would directly contribute to the protection of these precious creatures.

Lastly, our journey to Perak to support marine life conservation left a lasting impact on me. Witnessing firsthand the dedication of the Segari Turtle Sanctuary workers in ensuring the survival of turtle hatchlings was inspiring. From collecting garbage to controlling the ambient temperature for turtle egg hatching, every task felt meaningful and purposeful.

Looking back, this experience has taught me the importance of hands-on conservation efforts and the significant impact even a small group of volunteers can have. It was not only a fun adventure but also a deeply meaningful opportunity for me to contribute to something greater than myself."
