 Pet Cafs: Yea or Nay? Pet cafs may seem like a dream come true cute animals you do not usually see, coffee, and cuddles all in one place. Scrolling through social media, it is clear that pet cafs are a growing trend. The cosy aesthetics may seem great for family fun and exposing children to animal interactions, but for the animals, their new home could be a place of distress and suffering. In 2023, the SPCA investigated four pet caf cases, including I Love Cat Caf, which faced public scrutiny in early 2024. Our visit revealed malnourished cats, inadequate space, poor hygiene, and ventilation. Two cats required urgent veterinary care. While the caf aimed to be a refuge, it became a distressing environment for the animals. Thankfully, all seven cats have since been rehomed, and the caf has closed. Before visiting a pet caf, consider whether it truly prioritises animal welfare. Your visit isnt just a one-time experience it is an endorsement that keeps the business running.
