Whats one wildlife species you learned about during RASMA that fascinated you, and why?
A wildlife species I learned during RASMA were gibbons! Gibbons are known as songbirds of the forest with their hauntingly beautiful duets, serving as territorial markers and mating calls. As lesser apes, they lack tails but make up for it with brachiation, swinging through treetops up to 15 meters per leap. Their monogamous and mothering nature reminds me of how important it is for people to feel such compassion towards animals. Beyond their adorableness, learning about the gibbon illegal pet trade was eye-opening, as I now understand their fragile existence and how conservation efforts are crucial in protecting them.
Whats one piece of advice youd give to new RASMA participants?
To new RASMA participants, step out of your comfort zone! The more you give to the experience and share your ideas, the more it will shape you. So, stay curious, stay present and enjoy your volunteering journey. Rooting!
