For social media. [OPEN HOUSE]
Tying up monitor lizards is distressing and harmful, and we strongly discourage it. Thankfully, neither lizard was injured in this case. After observation and hydration, both were safely released back into the wild.
These shy reptiles are scavengers, reducing the spread of disease and supporting a healthier ecosystem for all.
Sadly, monitor lizards in Singapore still face several threats:
- Misconceptions that they are dangerous, leading to fear-based actions like tying or harming them
- Road accidents as they move through fragmented habitats
- Stress and injury from unnecessary human interference
If you spot one, just give it space and a clear path to scoot off. The same is true when were in a crowded elevator. No need to panic, no need to push. Everyone just wants to get out safely and with dignity.
