
In conjunction with Earth Day, WWF-Malaysia was invited by Bursa Malaysias Sustainability Centre of Excellence to give a talk on conservation and sustainable forest practices in a special session titled Warga Bursa Earth Day.
WWF-Malaysias Senior Director of Conservation, Dr. Henry Chan gave a presentation on the impact of Bursa Malaysias funding on WWF-Malaysias elephant conservation programme as well as addressing environmental challenges through Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
Dr. Henry spoke about the current state of the Bornean elephant in Sabah, including threats faced by them due to human-wildfire conflict, habitat fragmentation, and unsustainable road infrastructure development.
In the presentation, Dr Henry also emphasised the Living Landscape Approach in Sabah as a model of innovative NbS to protect biodiversity while in balance with economic development, as well as overseeing potential areas for forest restoration.
Also present at the event were Chairman of both WWF-Malaysia and Bursa Malaysia, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia, Dato Fadl Mohamed, and Member of WWF-Malaysias Board of Trustees and Director of Group Sustainability Bursa Malaysia, Dr. Ahmad Hezri Adnan.
