We check our terrapin nests every month during the incubation period.

In the first two months, we look for any signs of fungal infection or ant infestation. Catching these early helps protect the eggs. We remove any eggs that are affected by fungi or attacked by ants.

In the final month of incubation, as we perform the nest checks, we also loosen the sand in the nest. This makes it easier for the hatchlings to reach the surface when theyre ready to emerge.

Were approaching the end of the incubation period and were all very excited about the hatching season!

Last year, a total of 1,176 hatchlings successfully hatched. How many hatchlings do you think will hatch this year? Take a guess!
