WWF-Malaysia recently brought together government agencies, local communities, and partners in Gerik, Hulu Perak, for a stakeholder dialogue with rubber smallholders to explore opportunities for sustainable rubber production. The dialogue also discussed challenges, especially humanwildlife conflicts affecting rubber smallholders in the district.
Held on 2 April, the session also shared updates on our Sustainable Rubber Project, which supports rubber smallholders towards attaining Forest Stewardship Council certification.
During the dialogue, humanwildlife conflict was identified as one of the ongoing challenges due to fragmented habitats for wildlife and proximity of communities to the forested areas.
Moving forward, we will explore approaches that support human-wildlife coexistence, while contributing to healthier forests, more resilient landscapes, and community wellbeing in Hulu Perak.
