Earlier this week in Tawau, a two-day Basic First Aid and Search and Rescue training brought together 65 participants from WWF-Malaysia and Forestry Department Kunakwith a focus on those supporting restoration work on the ground.

The training was jointly organised with Sabah Forestry Department Kunak District, strengthening collaboration and preparedness on the ground.

Day one focused on essential first-aid skillsincluding managing wounds and bleeding, responding to fractures, and hands-on practice with bandaging techniques. Participants also learned CPR and choking response, as well as practical knots and lashings useful for field situations.

On the second day, participants headed to the Madai Baturong Forest Reserve Nature Centre for a basic search-and-rescue exercise. Working in teams, they applied what they had learned in simulated scenariosnavigating the field to locate and safely evacuate victims, while strengthening coordination and teamwork.

Strengthening these skills is key to safeguarding the teams and contractors carrying out restoration work on the ground, where conditions can be remote and physically demanding.
