We have provided some feedback on how wildlife considerations can be included with the introduction of autonomous vehicles (AVs) on our roads. With our city becoming more urbanised, more animals are forced to cross roads to survive.

Hence, we hope that these questions can be addressed:

.
What technologies or AI systems are being developed or incorporated to detect wildlife and reduce the likelihood of animals being struck? Are there specific measures or protocols for wildlife detection?

.
If an AV collides with an animal, how is the vehicle expected to respond? Will it be programmed to stop safely, alert emergency services, notify the relevant authorities, or provide information to facilitate timely assistance for the injured animal?

.
If an animal struck by an AV is left stranded/dies on the road, resulting in a secondary traffic accident involving another road user, how will liability be determined? Who would be accountable for the resulting injuries or damages?

.
Singapore has put in considerable effort into reducing wildlife-vehicle collisions through measures such as eco-links, wildlife crossings, and public education. Have there been discussions on integrating conservation initiatives into AV systems, such as recognising wildlife crossing hotspots, responding to wildlife warning signs, or using predictive mapping to reduce collision risks and were nature/wildlife groups consulted for feedback on this?

Lets keep our roads safe - even for animals.
