Some things are too strange to be coincidences.

Meet Dobby.

My sister and I were walking back to my hotel room when all of a sudden, a tortie cat appeared out of nowhere. She started walking in front of us, like she was guiding us. She even stopped to let us pet her head. We ended up right outside the hotel lobby when I remembered I had a packet of cat treats in my luggage. I always keep some with me in case I run into strays.

I asked my sister to keep the cat company while I went upstairs to get the treats. A while later, I walked back out the lobby door to find a tiny, emaciated white kitten, no more than 3 months old, meowing loudly and slowly making her way towards us. At first, we thought the tortie was the little one’s mom, but when we looked closer, we realized the tortie had a clipped ear (she was neutered and released). Based on how the two interacted, we figured they weren’t related.

We tried giving the tortie some of the treats, but she wasn’t interested. It was like she had a mission to guide us to the kitten. She left soon after.

It took a while for me to coax the little one, whom we affectionately call Dobby, (I mean seriously, she’s a dead ringer of the famed house elf), to get closer and eat the treat. My sister went to find a box for her. The poor thing was starving. It was clear she hadn’t eaten in days. As scared as she was, she nudged my hand with her head, asking for more pets and purring here and there. Judging by how scared she was, I think she hasn’t been treated well by the people around the area.

My sister came back with a box, and we loaded Dobby into the car.

Currently at the vet, Dobby is undergoing treatment for mild flu, dehydration, malnutrition, and blisters on her hind legs. The vet attributed the blisters to her prolonged walking. She must have been walking for days, while the hot concrete burned her skin and fur, begging for food, but was abused by the people around her. Unfortunately, my sister can’t take her in because she already has three cats and is already in trouble with the landlord for having so many. I’ll be returning home overseas in a couple of weeks, so we’re searching for an adopter or foster parent who can care for her. Dobby, though initially timid, is a sweet little girl with so much love to give.

Please contact me directly here if you decide to open up your heart and home to this little girl. She’s been through a lot. It’s time for her to find her forever home.
